Senior politician Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel gave the statement to the Iranian news agency ILNA, and the remarks were also covered by Iran International.

In his comments, Haddad-Adel attempted to reassure the public, stating that despite the disconnect and periodic lack of contact, Mojtaba is "alive and well". He clarified that the current situation stems from specific considerations and circumstances requiring it for the time being, though he did not detail what those considerations are.
The unusual statement comes amid widespread rumors and growing criticism in Iran and abroad, sparked by Mojtaba Khamenei's conspicuous absence from the funeral ceremony of his father, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. During the funeral itself, the identity of the man wearing a black mask and cap in the front row leading prayers was revealed.
While many initially speculated it was Mojtaba himself, official reports disclosed that it was Mohammad Javad Khamenei, the late leader's eldest grandson, who had been severely injured and suffered serious facial burns during the U.S. and Israeli missile strike on February 28th.
