The notorious cybercrime group ShinyHunters claims to have breached FBI systems and obtained sensitive information on thousands of current and former employees.
ShinyHunters is an international ransomware and hacking collective that operates primarily for financial gain and extortion. Active since 2019, the group has become one of the world's most recognized database breach operations.
Reuters reviewed a file containing approximately 5,000 records that the hackers published. The data includes names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and emergency contact information, alongside details about employees' roles and unit assignments.
Among those listed in the file are personnel working on matters related to China, Russia, Iran, and Hezbollah, as well as specialists in cyber operations, surveillance, and human intelligence.
"Only a Small Portion"
According to the hackers, the exposed information represents only a fraction of a database totaling two to three terabytes. They claim to possess additional data on recruitment processes and background checks, contracts, and sensitive medical records of agents.
