Golan streams surge after weekend rains

Nahal Sa'ar and Banias waterfalls flow at full force following Shabbos downpours across northern Israel. Record rainfall hits coastal plain, with Kadima logging 117mm in 75 minutes.

The rains that fell over Shabbos have brought powerful flows to streams across the Golan Heights.

Nahal Sa'ar in the northern Golan, which typically dries up in summer, is now rushing with heavy currents. South of it, the Banias waterfall is also flowing at full force. All of this runoff will eventually reach the Kinneret, which has not yet risen but is expected to show gains in the coming days.

Most of the rainfall, and the heaviest amounts, fell along the coastal plain and in the Sharon region.

The Meteorological Service reported that the town of Kadima recorded rare rainfall totals of 117mm in an hour and fifteen minutes, with approximately 100mm falling in a single hour. This amount represents a record for areas outside the coastal plain and is the second-highest ever measured in Israel within an hour, after the national record set on November 19, 2024, in Ma'agan Michael, when 110mm fell in one hour.

Exceptionally high rainfall was also measured today in Even Yehuda and Binyamina, with approximately 70mm and 50mm respectively falling in a single hour.

After a rainy and stormy Shabbos, temperatures will remain below seasonal average, with flooding and flash floods expected.

Sunday: Local rains will continue to fall in the north and center of the country, with isolated thunderstorms still possible in the morning hours. Through the morning, there remains a slight risk of local flooding along the coastal plain. From midday, the rains will weaken and gradually diminish. Temperatures will remain below seasonal average.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy to clear skies with a further slight rise in temperatures and a drop in humidity levels. Temperatures will still be below seasonal average.
