Gulf Split on Iran Talks

Qatar and Oman favor engagement with Tehran while Saudi Arabia and UAE insist on maintaining economic pressure, according to Open Source Intel

The commander of the IRGC's special forces declared defiantly that they are ready to make the Bab el-Mandeb Strait a dangerous point

Gulf nations have taken divergent positions on how to handle a potential restart of U.S.-Iran negotiations, according to Open Source Intel. Qatar is pushing the Trump administration for talks and has proposed a seven-day pause in fighting to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while Oman supports a phased reopening and diplomatic resolution. Both Qatar and Oman favor engagement over confrontation.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE prefer maintaining economic pressure and sanctions on Tehran. Riyadh points to attacks on Gulf shipping and continued Houthi strikes in Yemen as evidence that more pressure is needed. The UAE, with Saudi Arabia, holds that this must come before any agreement is reached, according to the same source.
