Houthi forces have advanced to within 80 kilometers of Aden, Yemen's temporary capital and seat of the Saudi-backed government. The advance came through Lahj province in southern Yemen, where the Houthis made significant territorial gains in recent days, despite traditional opposition from most residents there. Aden is the main city in the south, and the Houthis have not been this close since 2015, when they briefly captured the city before being driven back by Saudi support.
