Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic candidate for US Senate from Michigan, has accused Israel of genocide. "The State of Israel has committed genocide. I don't think that's a controversial statement," El-Sayed said.
El-Sayed argued that anyone who looks into the subject would reach the same conclusion. He named Israeli human rights organizations as support for that view.
He also raised the question of American money. A foreign government using US funds to commit genocide, combined with an inability to discuss it, is "very problematic," El-Sayed said.
Israel has featured in the race before. El-Sayed told CBS's 60 Minutes, in an interview that aired Sunday, that Palestine has a right to exist. Asked the same question about Israel, he attached a condition, saying he would support two states if Israelis and Palestinians chose that outcome on equal terms.
