"We heard screaming on the plane. Then they opened the cockpit, we saw quantities of blood, and someone stabbed the pilot with a box cutter": that is how Miriam, an Israeli passenger on a Flydubai flight, described the moments of terror experienced by passengers Wednesday on the flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. In an interview with i24NEWS, she revealed harrowing details of the incident that put the entire Middle East on alert.
"We felt like we were about to crash. I screamed 'Shema Yisrael,'" Miriam said. "There was a doctor and a nurse here who gave initial treatment to the pilot. The Israelis neutralized the attacker together with the crew, and we made an emergency landing. There were also moments when we thought we wouldn't make it out alive."
The flight, carrying more than 150 Israelis, transmitted a distress signal indicating a hijacking, which led to the scrambling of Israeli Air Force fighter jets. The aircraft circled over Jordanian skies on its way to Israel and later transmitted that it was over Saudi airspace, where it eventually landed.
