ICC President Tomoko Akane condemns U.S. sanctions on the court

International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane responded to American sanctions imposed on the ICC, calling attempts to prevent the court from fulfilling its judicial role "unacceptable." She stated the sanctions constitute "an attack against the sovereign states that established the Court" and "an attack against the international legal order as a whole." Akane emphasized the court is "an independent and impartial judicial institution" that does not act out of political motives, with actions "guided solely by the law and the evidence."
