IDF Officer Moderately Wounded in Accidental Shooting at Military Engineering School

An Israel Defense Forces officer was moderately injured in an accidental shooting incident at a military base in southern Israel. The incident took place at the School of Military Engineering (known by its Hebrew acronym BAHALATZ), located in the Arava desert region.

Following the incident, the officer was evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment. The IDF confirmed that the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge. Once the investigation is completed, findings will be forwarded to the Military Advocate General's office for review.

Earlier this month, a separate incident occurred involving an IDF soldier undergoing basic training who was seriously wounded by gunfire during a shooting range exercise at a training base in the Jordan Valley. Preliminary investigation into that incident raised suspicions that the soldier was hit as a result of an accidental discharge. He received immediate medical treatment at the scene before being evacuated to a hospital in serious condition. His family was notified.

Following that unusual incident, military police investigators were called to the base and opened an investigation into the circumstances. The investigation is examining multiple aspects, including how the shooting range was managed, the handling of weapons, and the circumstances that led to the accidental discharge. Upon completion of the Military Police investigation, the findings will be submitted to the Military Advocate General's office for review.
