As Likud prepares for its internal primaries to determine the party's Knesset slate, a Friday meeting among senior party officials focused partly on the rising fortunes of Member of Knesset Tally Gotliv and concerns about her potential placement on the list.
According to a report by Amit Segal on Channel 12 News, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was shown internal polling data during the discussion. The surveys indicated that Gotliv enjoys strong support among Likud members who will vote in the primaries, positioning her to secure a prominent spot in the second ten of the party list.
However, the same data reportedly suggested that placing her near the top of the list could result in the loss of two to three Knesset seats for Likud in the general election, specifically among voter segments the party is trying to attract.
Following the presentation, participants discussed the possibility of campaigning among party members to reduce support for Gotliv and prevent her from achieving a high ranking.
According to the report, Netanyahu characterized the data as "disturbing" but decided against leading an official effort against her candidacy himself.
Instead, the prime minister limited himself to expressing confidence that "the members will make the right considerations in the primaries."
