Israel Revokes Dutch Diplomats' Status Over Settlement Ban

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar notified the Dutch embassy in Israel on Sunday that Dutch diplomats operating in Ramallah must return the diplomatic documentation issued to them by the State of Israel within seven days. After that period, the immunities and privileges granted to them under that documentation will expire.

The decision follows the Dutch government's actions against Israel and the entry into force last week of an order banning imports and trade in products from Judea and Samaria, eastern Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.

The Foreign Ministry made clear that if the Netherlands wishes to continue representing its interests vis-à-vis the Palestinians, it can do so from Palestinian Authority territory and not from the territory of the State of Israel.

Last month, the foreign minister decided to remove the Dutch representative from the International Support Center for Gaza operating from Kiryat Gat, and that decision has been implemented. The current move is a continuation of Israel's series of response measures toward the Netherlands.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that Israel will not move on from actions designed to harm it, and response measures will be taken against any such attempt. "Any country that acts in a hostile and one-sided manner against Israel will lose its influence and relevance in the region," the Foreign Ministry stated.

The Foreign Ministry reiterated the urgent need to address the rising antisemitism and incitement openly visible in the streets of the Netherlands. According to the ministry, not only is this open antisemitism and incitement not receiving meaningful treatment, but the Dutch government's anti-Israel policy is fueling it.

It should be noted that recent months have seen a deterioration in relations between Israel and the Netherlands.

The decision to revoke diplomatic status from Dutch representatives in Ramallah is expected to affect the Netherlands' ability to operate vis-à-vis the Palestinian Authority through Israeli territory, and sends a clear message to other countries that may be considering similar steps.
