Lebanon's armed forces have launched a verbal offensive against Israel, with military spokesmen accusing the Jewish state of what they describe as "continuous violations of the ceasefire agreement." The accusations come despite the absence of visible signs that Lebanese forces are taking meaningful action against Hezbollah on the ground, as stipulated in the U.S.-brokered ceasefire arrangement between Israel and Lebanon that has been in effect for recent months.
According to statements from Lebanese military officials, the past several days have seen what they characterize as "a dangerous escalation in the field, even relative to the existing norm." The Lebanese army claims that Israeli strikes in recent days have killed 12 people in Lebanon, which they describe as a significant escalation. Lebanese command sources speaking to media outlets have alleged that "Israel has violated the ceasefire at least 7,700 times since the beginning of the deal."
Lebanese officials further contend that Israeli military activity is actually preventing the dismantling of Hezbollah, arguing that they cannot deploy their army throughout all designated areas and with full force as long as Israeli strikes continue.
