Lieberman mocked as billboard comes down

Avigdor Lieberman announces he'll back a government with chareidi parties in exchange for a soft draft law, and on the same day, his campaign billboard promising never to sit with haredim is taken down

Lieberman becomes a punchline

In a moment of perfect irony, a giant campaign billboard featuring Avigdor Lieberman came down from a Tel Aviv tower on Friday, the same day Lieberman announced he would back a government with the chareidi parties in exchange for a soft draft law.

The billboard displayed one of Lieberman's core campaign promises: that he would refuse to sit with the haredim and would not continue what he called "the policy of draft evasion."

On Lieberman's official X account, his pinned tweet still features his pledge to "end haredi rule," with an image of Netanyahu alongside haredi MKs holding a sign reading "We will die and not enlist."

In his statement on Friday, Lieberman laid out what he called clear red lines: "1. We must end the Netanyahu era. 2. We must not be dragged into another election. 3. We must not form a government that relies on abstention by the Joint List and Ra'am."

"Regarding a minority government, my position was and remains completely clear," Lieberman said. "I said this during the election campaign, close to election day, and I repeated it afterward: I strongly oppose forming a government that relies on abstention by the Joint List and Ra'am, and Yisrael Beiteinu will vote against such a government."

Lieberman concluded: "On all other issues, it is permitted and even desirable to be flexible, to compromise, and to understand that if you grasp too much, you grasp nothing. This includes the draft law as well. It pains me, and I know it pains many others. But in light of the array of challenges we face today, the national interest of the State of Israel and the Jewish people must stand above every other consideration."
