Netanyahu Thanks Trump for New Iran Sanctions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement Monday evening thanking U.S. President Donald Trump following the announcement of what American officials described as an unprecedented economic offensive against Iran.

"You are justly exacting a heavy price from this brutal dictatorship and those who help it continue its aggression," Netanyahu wrote on his social media account.

The Israeli leader's message came after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent declared what he termed an "economic D-Day" against Iran, financial assault set to take effect in the coming hours. Bessent said the Iranian regime is at its weakest point after President Trump "dismantled Iran's military capabilities, destroyed nearly 100 percent of its military factories, and buried its nuclear program."

According to details released by the Treasury Department, the planned sanctions will target approximately 60 entities, individuals and vessels connected to Iran, focusing on five core sectors: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping. "The clock is ticking," Bessent announced, outlining the scope of the financial measures.

The actions include sanctions against an extensive network of intermediary companies and vessels belonging to Iran's so-called "shadow fleet" operating across the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Switzerland and Europe. The Trump administration is also expected to impose secondary sanctions on countries and entities that continue trading with Iran, potentially including revocation of general licenses that until now have permitted certain financial transfers to Tehran.

President Trump himself posted a brief statement earlier on the Truth Social platform, writing in capital letters: "IRAN IS COMPLETELY COLLAPSING!!!"
