A Serbian passenger who narrowly survived being pulled through a shattered airplane window during a Ryanair flight last month is preparing to file a compensation lawsuit that could reach tens of millions of euros, according to German newspaper Bild. Ljubiša Karović, 61, is being represented by Greek attorney Vassilios Tsiaras, along with 35 other passengers who were aboard the same flight. The lawyer indicated that the total compensation being sought could reach a double-digit figure in millions of euros.
The harrowing incident occurred when debris from the aircraft's engine struck and shattered a passenger window. Karović's head was pulled through the opening by the sudden decompression, while fellow passengers and crew members struggled to hold onto him and pull him back inside the cabin. He survived the ordeal.
The attorney is awaiting final findings from the ongoing investigation before determining which parties will be named as defendants in the lawsuit. Potential targets include Ryanair itself, aircraft manufacturer Boeing, the engine manufacturer, and entities responsible for the plane's maintenance.
"Everyone looked death in the eyes during this event," the lawyer said, referring to the 36 passengers he represents.
