U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered his negotiating team to completely cease talks with Iran, CNN reported overnight Tuesday. The decision represents a strategic shift after weeks of unsuccessful attempts to advance diplomatic engagement with Tehran. According to the report, Trump has moved away from an approach focused on "striking Iran as soon as possible" toward a strategy aimed at economically "strangling" the Islamic Republic over an extended period.
A source familiar with the matter told CNN that White House officials have informed political allies of the change in approach.
