Major Harel Biranstock, a 34-year-old IDF reserve officer and resident of Nokdim, was killed in action during combat operations in southern Lebanon on Wednesday afternoon. His death was officially cleared for publication by military authorities following notification of his family.
The fatal engagement occurred during midday operational activities in Majdal Zoun, located within the western sector of southern Lebanon inside the designated yellow zone.
The Gush Etzion Regional Council issued a formal statement confirming his death, noting that he was the son of Shlomo and Yonat from Neve Daniel and the grandson of Nechama Biranstock from Efrat.
Community members in Neve Daniel issued a tribute describing the fallen reserve commander.
"Harel, 34 years old, a fine young man and an admired commander whose smile never left his face, fell defending the nation and the land in combat in Lebanon," local representatives stated. "The hearts of all of us are with his family, his parents Shlomo and Yonat, his wife Elia, his brothers, his sisters, his children, and the entire family."
Following the engagement in Majdal Zoun, Israeli forces initiated artillery bombardments targeting specific positions across southern Lebanon to suppress hostile firing locations.
However, the political leadership restrained military proposals for a more extensive counterstrike across the sector.
The decision to limit the operational response was influenced by diplomatic communications from American officials, who raised concerns that a major escalation in Lebanon could compromise the broader ceasefire framework and impact ongoing negotiations in the Persian Gulf.
According to reporting published by Srugim News, local authorities will release details regarding funeral arrangements once scheduling details are finalized.
