Spain Opposes NATO Push to Raise Defense Spending to 5% of GDP

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has informed NATO that Spain opposes the initiative to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP. In a letter sent to the alliance, Sánchez warned that Spain cannot meet such a target without raising taxes and cutting social services, and formally requested an exemption for Spain from the proposal.
