A five-year-old child has died from heat stroke after being locked in a parked car in the Chabad Housing neighborhood of Lod, Israeli police announced Saturday.
The child, who had apparently fallen asleep inside the vehicle, was left unattended for approximately two hours. When the father discovered the child unconscious inside the car, he immediately called emergency services.
Paramedics from Magen David Adom arrived at the scene and performed resuscitation efforts while transporting the child to Assaf HaRofeh Hospital. Despite these efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital with clear signs of heat stroke.
Police in Lod have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the death. The Shefela district command is collecting evidence and interviewing family members.
Saturday's temperature in Lod reached the low 30s Celsius (mid-80s Fahrenheit), creating dangerously hot conditions inside a closed vehicle. Medical experts have long warned that interior car temperatures can reach lethal levels within minutes on warm days, particularly for young children whose bodies are less able to regulate heat.
