A Turkish passenger plane flying from Ankara to the southeastern city of Sanliurfa was evacuated on Monday evening after a note claiming there were explosives on board was found on the aircraft, local authorities said. All 143 people on the flight got off safely.
Sanliurfa Governor Hasan Sildak said in a post on X that AJet flight 4180 departed Ankara at 7 p.m. local time and landed at Sanliurfa GAP Airport at 8:05 p.m. with 136 passengers and seven crew members on board. He said security measures were raised to the highest level, and that passengers and crew were taken off the plane before security units began a detailed search for explosive material.
Authorities have not said who left the note or whether anyone has been detained.
AJet is the Turkish Airlines low-cost subsidiary formerly known as AnadoluJet.
