Two Killed After Sitting on Subway Tracks

A man and woman from New Jersey sat on the tracks of a Manhattan subway station early Sunday morning and were struck by an oncoming train. Authorities say there's no indication they fell or were pushed.

A 24-year-old man from Sayreville, New Jersey, and a 24-year-old woman from Dayton, New Jersey, were struck and killed by a subway train in Manhattan early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. at the Spring Street station in downtown Manhattan. Surveillance cameras captured the two sitting calmly on the tracks as a southbound number 4 train emerged and struck them fatally.

Law enforcement officials said there is no indication that the pair fell or were pushed onto the tracks. Investigators are examining whether they had consumed alcohol prior to the incident. Their names have not been released pending notification of their families.
