U.S. Treasury sanctions 17 additional tankers in Iran's shadow fleet

The U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned 17 more tankers operating in Iran's shadow fleet, including 13 petroleum and 5 petrochemical vessels. The designations target owners and managers across more than a dozen jurisdictions. The vessels transported crude oil, naphtha, LPG, fuel oil, bitumen, methanol, and ammonia to markets in South and East Asia. Treasury stated the action "effectively neutralizes the vast majority" of the remaining fleet, though no specific count of surviving vessels was provided. Two container ships, HAKUNA MATATA and PINOCCHIO, were removed from the sanctions list after being sold to non-sanctioned, U.S.-aligned operators.
