Dramatic revelations

Eisenkot: Threat left on son's grave

Yesh Atid chairman reveals anonymous threat at Gal's kever • Accuses Netanyahu of falsifying reports and lying to investigators • Dramatic interview ahead of 2026 elections

Eisenkot: "Threatening Note Left On My Son's Grave; I Debated What To Do"

In a wide-ranging interview set to be published tomorrow in Yediot Achronot's weekend supplement, Yesh Atid chairman and former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot revealed that unknown individuals left a threatening note on the grave of his son, Gal Eisenkot z"l, who fell in combat in Gaza in December 2023.

"I debated what to do with it, and in the end I decided to do nothing," Eisenkot said. "At this stage of life, it's very hard to frighten me."

During the interview, Eisenkot presented an April 2004 article by military correspondent Alex Fishman in which he said as a young officer that "there is no absolute victory in this struggle," and predicted with chilling accuracy: "I foresee that even my youngest son, today five years old, will fight in the territories." The prophecy came true when his son Gal fell in the Gaza fighting.

Eisenkot accuses Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of providing false versions of events to investigators and the State Comptroller, and even raises suspicion of criminal conduct: "In my assessment, they falsified reports. I have a very deep suspicion of document forgery... a document that someone cooked up."

Eisenkot also reveals a document prepared by Netanyahu's military secretary at a meeting on October 1, 2023, showing that contrary to Netanyahu's version, the heads of the security establishment recommended eliminating the Hamas leadership just days before October 7.

The revelations come against the backdrop of a stormy election campaign, with Eisenkot leading in recent polls with 23 seats for Yesh Atid, compared to 21 seats for Netanyahu's Likud. Several days ago, Eisenkot called on Netanyahu for a public televised debate, but no response has been received.

In recent days, the election campaign has also focused on the issue of chareidi enlistment, after Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara instructed the IDF to resume arrests of yeshiva students. The directive led to a wave of arrests and stormy protests, and returned the issue to the center of public discourse.
