UK maintains sanctions plan despite consulate closure, diplomatic talks underway

Britain is proceeding with its intention to impose sanctions, a process expected to take 6–9 months, which led to the consulate closure. In exchange for allowing a small number of diplomats to remain in the building and reducing the British diplomatic presence in Jerusalem, the planned expulsion of Israeli diplomats from London will be canceled and negotiations will take place. The UK hopes a new government will restore the consulate to its former status.
