UK national security adviser visited Israel to prevent East Jerusalem consulate closure

Jonathan Powell, Britain's national security adviser, traveled to Israel last week in an undisclosed visit to prevent the closure of the UK consulate in East Jerusalem, three sources told Reuters. Israel ordered the consulate's closure after London imposed sanctions on Israeli settlements. Powell held meetings with Israeli officials, but the two sides did not reach an agreement.
