United Torah Judaism opposes replacing Knesset Speaker before new government formed
United Torah Judaism Chairman MK Yaakov Asher stated his party would not support replacing Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana at this time. "Our principled position is that the Speaker of the Knesset should be replaced at the same time a new government is formed, rather than when the Knesset is convened," Asher said in response to a question. He argued this approach has been the accepted practice in the past, with only one exception, and prevents "an absurd situation in which the Speaker of the Knesset is opposed to the government that is eventually formed."
