drama at the airport

Ben Gurion evacuated after car breach

Driver in stolen vehicle ignored security orders at airport entrance, triggering emergency protocol; passengers rushed to protected area without luggage; suspect arrested within minutes

Terminal 1

An emergency evacuation unfolded this morning at Ben Gurion Airport's Terminal 1 after a driver in a stolen vehicle refused to stop at the airport entrance, triggering a full security protocol.

The driver arrived at the entrance checkpoint in a stolen car and ignored orders from security personnel to halt, according to a report by ynet. His refusal to comply immediately raised alarms among airport security forces, who activated an emergency procedure out of concern for a potential ramming attack.

An announcement was broadcast throughout Terminal 1 ordering all passengers to evacuate the security screening area immediately, leave their luggage behind, and proceed to a protected hall inside the terminal until the incident could be resolved.

Dror, a passenger who was in the terminal during the tense moments, described the scene to ynet: "In the middle of the security check, suddenly an announcement came that we had to evacuate urgently to a hall in the terminal and leave all the suitcases. Panic broke out among the passengers and rumors spread that there was some kind of security problem."

Security forces moved quickly and detained the driver of the stolen vehicle. After a brief period of uncertainty in the protected area, and once the security concern was fully cleared, an announcement informed passengers that the incident was over.

Passengers were permitted to return safely to the luggage they had left behind, resume security screening procedures and check-in, and airport operations returned to normal.
