WATCH: Freed hostage Agam Berger visits Joseph’s Tomb in Samaria

Released hostage Agam Berger made a poignant visit to Joseph’s Tomb last night, accompanied by Samaria governor Yossi Dagan, her mother Merav, and Rabbi Eliyahu Levanon.

Before arriving at the sacred site, Berger and her mother stopped at a winery in the Elon Moreh area, where they reflected on their journey and the significance of their visit.

Inside Joseph’s Tomb, Berger and Dagan participated in lighting the Ner Tamid, the eternal flame that traditionally burns in synagogues. In a special moment of recognition, Dagan presented Berger with a certificate of appreciation inscribed with her own words from the day she was freed from captivity: “I chose the path of faith.” The certificate honored her unwavering spirit, stating: “With your unwavering faith, you maintained the Jewish spirit. Your strength inspired an entire generation. With your determination, you granted the Jewish people power and hope.”

Dagan also gifted Berger a personalized prayer book engraved with her name, telling her, “You symbolize faith. You have no idea how much the Jewish people love and admire you.” Rabbi Levanon then led a prayer for the safe return of all hostages and a decisive victory in the war, blessing Agam and her mother: “May you be a messenger of the Jewish people with your inner strength, to bring good news and to see the good in everyone.”

Expressing gratitude, Berger addressed the soldiers protecting Israel: “I want to thank the soldiers. Stay safe; you are truly heroes. Let’s not forget anyone. They need us, they need our prayers, and they need us to be strong for them.”

Dagan praised both Agam and her mother, emphasizing their extraordinary resilience. “Agam, you and your mother, who raised you to be this way, symbolize something superhuman. You shared incredible, hair-raising stories of keeping kosher and holding onto Jewish values under conditions no one could endure. And they respected you more for it—those barbarians.”

He concluded with a powerful message, likening Berger’s journey to that of Joseph, who emerged from the depths of despair to a position of greatness. “You are here with us, in this holy place, at the Tomb of Joseph the Righteous, who rose from the pit to kingship. Our sister, we are moved that you are here, and we are glad you chose to pray here, drawing strength from Joseph’s resilience. May the Almighty, through the IDF, the Israeli government, and the Jewish people, bring salvation and return all captives from the pit with a great victory.”
