Shin Bet Detains Former Balfour Protester at Jerusalem Bar

Former Balfour protest activist Ziv Bernfeld was briefly detained by Shin Bet security guards Wednesday night while sitting with friends at a bar on Gaza Street in Jerusalem. According to eyewitnesses and Bernfeld himself, members of the Prime Minister’s close protection Unit 730 identified and approached him under unclear circumstances. He was escorted to a nearby building where he underwent a security screening using a magnetometer. In response, the Shin Bet stated: “Ziv Bernfeld was questioned by security personnel as part of a protective mission for the Prime Minister, due to a professional need. The questioning was conducted with Bernfeld’s full cooperation, in a respectful and professional manner, and concluded within a few minutes.”
