In a formal double ceremony held at the President’s Residence on Monday, President Isaac Herzog accepted the credentials of Poland’s newly appointed ambassador, as well as the incoming ambassador of Malta. Both envoys were greeted with military honors and flag-raising protocols, symbolizing the full restoration of official diplomatic ties.
A Turning Point for Israeli–Polish Relations
The appointment of a permanent Polish ambassador is being widely viewed as a significant development after a four-year diplomatic vacuum, during which Poland did not maintain a resident ambassador in Israel. Relations between the countries had been strained in recent years over historical and political disputes.
“We are very pleased to welcome you to Israel,” President Herzog told the Polish ambassador. “We are especially glad to see the renewal of Poland’s full diplomatic presence here after such a long absence.”
Herzog emphasized Poland’s importance to many Israelis, both emotionally and historically:
“Poland is a great friend of Israel and holds special significance for many of our citizens - through both difficult and brighter chapters of our shared history. I hope that during your term, we will deepen our cooperation even further.”
In his response, the Polish ambassador said:
“It is a great honor to serve my country in Israel. As you mentioned, we share a complex history - dark chapters, but also bright ones. We recognize the deep contributions of the Jewish people to Polish culture and the influence of Polish heritage on Israeli society.”
