The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that a strike on a vehicle in central Gaza City, which resulted in one fatality and 11 wounded according to Arab media reports, was due to a stray mortar shell fired during operations in the Yellow Line area.
An hour after the initial reports surfaced, a security source clarified that the incident was not an intentional strike. IDF forces were conducting mortar fire on the outskirts of the city when one shell deviated approximately 4 kilometers from its intended target, impacting near a vehicle.
An IDF spokesperson later confirmed, "Earlier today (Wednesday), as part of IDF forces' activity in the Yellow Line area, a mortar shell fired during the operation deviated from its target. Claims of casualties from firing in the area are known. The incident is under investigation."
