Houthi leader warns Israel of imminent attack as soon as tomorrow over Gaza aid delay

In a new threat against Israel, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthi rebels in Yemen, has vowed to resume attacks on Israel if humanitarian aid to Gaza is not restored.

The threat was issued on Friday, with al-Houthi setting a deadline for four days for the delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip. Should the deadline pass without action, he warned, his forces would take military measures against Israel.

“We are committed to our position regarding the ultimatum we set for Israel concerning the resumption of aid to Gaza. Our forces are ready to carry out operations. Military actions will take place once the deadline expires, if aid does not enter Gaza,” al-Houthi declared in his statement.

The ultimatum follows a suspension of humanitarian aid to Gaza, which had been halted amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. In his remarks, al-Houthi emphasized that the continued blockage of aid would not be tolerated, and the Houthis were prepared to act militarily in response. His statement also referenced the efforts of ceasefire mediators, giving them a four-day window to resolve the issue.

The Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran, have previously acted as a proxy force in support of Hamas, launching attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea and firing missiles and drones toward Israel. These operations were part of a broader campaign to show solidarity with Hamas in the wake of the October 7 massacre, in which Hamas killed over 1,200 Israelis and took many hostages.

After a ceasefire and a hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas, the Houthis had halted their attacks on Israel. However, with the renewal of hostilities in Gaza, al-Houthi has now signaled that his group is prepared to re-engage in military actions if the situation in Gaza worsens, particularly in regard to the humanitarian crisis.

The Houthis' threats mark a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict in the region, further complicating the already volatile situation. As the deadline approaches, the international community remains on edge, with fears that military escalation could worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and further destabilize the broader Middle East.
