Lights Out in Iran

Plague of Darkness: Massive Air Strikes Plunge Tehran into Total Blackout

Strategic air strikes on the Parchin power network and Alborz province have triggered a massive "Plague of Darkness," leaving large sections of Tehran and Karaj without electricity.

The Iranian capital of Tehran and its surrounding industrial hubs are grappling with a massive energy crisis following a series of precision air strikes that have severely damaged the nation’s power transmission infrastructure. Dubbed a "Plague of Darkness" by local observers, the resulting blackouts have paralyzed several key districts of the capital and the neighboring city of Karaj. The Iranian Ministry of Energy has officially confirmed that the power outages are a direct consequence of attacks on electricity industry facilities, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing war as the coalition targets the functional survival of the regime's administrative and industrial heartland.

Darkness Over the Capital

The scale of the disruption became apparent on Sunday evening as reports from Eghtesad Online indicated that an attack on the Parchin power transmission network caused total blackouts in Tehran's Districts 4, 7, 11, 13, and 14. These areas represent a significant portion of the city's residential and commercial activity. The state-run Fars News Agency also confirmed the damage, noting that shrapnel from the aerial bombardment struck a high-voltage line in Alborz province, causing a cascade of failures at a local substation. This damage effectively severed the flow of electricity to large parts of Karaj, a city vital to the regime's manufacturing capabilities.

The Iranian Ministry of Energy released a statement acknowledging that "power has been cut in the Tehran and Alborz provinces following strikes on power industry facilities in the Tehran province." While emergency electricity crews have been dispatched in an attempt to restore service quickly, the extent of the structural damage to the grid suggests that a full recovery may take considerable time. Opposition sources and residents on the ground describe a chaotic scene as traffic lights, communications, and basic services failed simultaneously across the impacted zones. By targeting the high-voltage lines and substations associated with military-industrial complexes like Parchin, the air campaign has successfully demonstrated the vulnerability of the Iranian home front to systematic infrastructure degradation. As the sun sets over a darkened Tehran, the psychological and logistical impact of this "Plague of Darkness" continues to ripple through the upper echelons of the regime.
