Members of the Druze community in As-Suwayda, a province in southern Syria, organized a public show of solidarity with Israel in recent hours, driving through the city in a convoy that featured both Druze and Israeli flags. The demonstration came against the backdrop of Israeli Air Force strikes targeting military sites in northern Syria and ongoing tensions between the community and the Islamist government in Damascus.
The convoy, which included local Druze leaders, also displayed images of Hikmat al-Hijri, a prominent figure in the As-Suwayda Druze community. Participants in the demonstration expressed their appreciation for Israel's role in protecting them from what they view as a hostile Islamist regime. The Druze population in As-Suwayda has maintained a distinct position throughout Syria's recent upheavals, and this public gesture underscores their alignment with Israel amid the current regional dynamics.
