American military forces struck a commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman on Tuesday, ending more than a week during which the United States refrained from offensive operations in the Strait of Hormuz region. The action targeted was a Panama-flagged ship that attempted to break through the U.S.Naval blockade of Iranian ports.
A "UH-1Y" american combat helicopter fired on the vessel, identified by maritime security firm Vanguard as the Wola Nova, striking its steering mechanism and igniting a fire that was later extinguished. All 17 crew members aboard were accounted for, and no casualties were reported in the incident.
The strike follows renewed statements by President Donald Trump late Monday asserting American control over the strategic waterways, while dismissing recent Iranian attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, incidents that have occurred repeatedly in recent days.
When pressed by reporters for details on future U.S. plans in the region, the president declined to elaborate, just saying : "You'll see", and moving on.
