Less than a day after the co-pilot stabbed the pilot and sent a Fly Dubai jet into a dive over the Gulf, the story is already being turned into a documentary.
According to a report by Eran Swissa in Yisrael Hayom, the Israeli broadcaster HOT has begun work on a film that will reconstruct the attack on flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Israel through the accounts of passengers who were on board.
The project will follow the sequence of events that turned a routine flight into a mid-air emergency at tens of thousands of feet. During the incident, the captain was stabbed, the aircraft entered a sharp dive, and passengers and crew had to act within seconds to regain control of the plane and execute an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
Passengers to reconstruct the attack
Since their return to Israel, several passengers have already described to the media the moments when they realised something was wrong in the cockpit, the struggle to overpower the attacker, and the uncertainty that gripped the cabin. Those testimonies are now expected to form the core of the documentary, which will attempt to piece together the story from the perspective of those who lived through it.
Work on the project is beginning while the incident itself is still making headlines and new footage and witness accounts continue to emerge, revealing further details of what happened in the air.
The speed is unusual: the event is still fresh, the passengers have only just returned home, and new information about what took place on the flight is still coming to light. Still, the miraculous story is definitely movie-worthy.
