Pop star Robbie Williams stunned audiences at London’s Emirates Stadium on Saturday night when he welcomed controversial rapper Wiley, known for a string of antisemitic social media posts, to perform alongside him during his Britpop tour. The former Take That singer, 51, was joined by Wiley, 46, Lethal Bizzle, and Scorcher for a rendition of their new single, Can’t Touch This.

The decision drew sharp criticism from some fans, particularly given Wiley’s history. In 2020, the rapper, born Richard Kylea Cowie Jr., unleashed a multiday tirade on social media, calling Jewish people “cowards and snakes” and likening them to the Ku Klux Klan. His comments led to bans from Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), though the X ban was later lifted.

In 2021, Wiley was banned again after posting a video of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who has been widely criticized for antisemitic rhetoric, and targeting Joe Glasman of Campaign Against Antisemitism in a series of abusive posts. Last year, Wiley was stripped of his MBE, awarded in 2018 for services to music.

Fans expressed dismay online, with one Reddit user, YungMili, writing, “Me and my Jewish friends had to leave. Why Wiley? He’s never apologized for his antisemitism, which he’s doubled down on.” Others, however, celebrated the unexpected collaboration, highlighting the divide among Williams’ audience.

The performance was particularly striking given Williams’ personal connection to the Jewish community. His wife, Ayda Field, is Jewish, and the couple has said they are raising their children in the Jewish faith. During a 2023 performance in Israel, Williams praised the country, telling the crowd, “There is a peace here that I don’t feel in London, that I don’t feel in Los Angeles… You mean an awful lot to me.”

Williams’ decision to platform Wiley has fans questioning the pop star’s choices.
