Amid heightened tensions and ongoing military operations, two foreign nationals known for anti-Israel activity were arrested over the weekend after illegally entering a restricted military zone near the Israeli community of Avigail in the southern Hebron Hills. The zone, designated as an IDF firing area, is off-limits to unauthorized personnel due to national security and operational concerns.

The individuals were discovered following a report from the Maon community security coordinator, who noticed suspicious behaviour near a structure in the Palestinian village of Khalet al-Daba’. IDF forces and officers from the Hebron Station quickly responded to the alert and detained the pair within the closed zone.

One of the detainees is widely recognized for participating in anti-Israel campaigns abroad, raising concerns over the nature of their entry into such a sensitive area. Their actions are being viewed by Israeli authorities as deliberate provocation that undermines the country's security efforts during a time of conflict.

The two were taken in for questioning at the Hebron police station, where security personnel coordinated with the Population and Immigration Authority to determine their status. After an initial review, officials decided to temporarily bar both individuals from entering the Judea and Samaria region for 15 days.

Subsequent legal proceedings were held on Sunday at the Immigration Authority offices at Ben Gurion Airport. One of the activists agreed to leave the country voluntarily. The second declared her intention to appeal the deportation and remains in custody pending the outcome.

Israel remains firm in enforcing its military regulations in operational zones, especially during times of conflict when the presence of foreign activists can risk disrupting operations or inadvertently aiding hostile narratives. Authorities stress that these areas are closed to unauthorized personnel to protect both military personnel and civilians, and that violations will be dealt with swiftly and lawfully.
