A Hero’s Honor
IDF Chief Surprises 80-Year-Old Reservist with Brigadier General Rank | WATCH
In a moving ceremony, 80-year-old Moshe Feld, former MK, deputy minister, and reserve soldier, was awarded the rank of Brigadier General by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.

In a deeply moving ceremony, 80-year-old Moshe Feld, a former Knesset member and lifelong servant of Israel, was honored with the rank of Brigadier General by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
The surprise gesture, which took place yesterday (Wednesday) celebrated Feld’s unyielding dedication to the Israel Defense Forces, where he continues to serve as a reserve tank transporter driver despite his advanced age.
Hailing from Kibbutz Beit Hashita, Feld has worn many hats: reserve colonel, deputy minister, and Knesset member for the Tzomet party in 1992 and later the Likud-Gesher-Tzomet alliance. He served with distinction on the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee and as Deputy Speaker, as well as Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, and Sports.
Yet, it is his quiet heroism in the reserves that defines him. From the Second Lebanon War to Operation Protective Edge, Operation Guardian of the Walls, and the ongoing Iron Swords War, Feld has donned his uniform, climbed into the driver’s seat of a tank transporter, and served in the field.
When Lt. Gen. Zamir arrived to personally pin the Brigadier General insignia on Feld, it was a recognition of a lifetime of sacrifice. “Moshe Feld’s extraordinary commitment and enduring Zionist spirit are an inspiration to us all,” Zamir said.
For Feld, who has faced the perils of war and the weight of public service, the honor was a rare moment of acknowledgment for a man who asks for none. His insistence on serving at 80, when most would rest, speaks to a generation’s ethos of duty, a reminder of the resilience that has sustained Israel through decades of conflict.
