Argentine President Javier Milei landed at Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday morning for an official state visit that underscores the deepening strategic bond between Jerusalem and Buenos Aires. Recognized as one of Israel's most staunch and reliable international allies, Milei began his trip with a visit to the Western Wall before heading to the Prime Minister’s office for a joint declaration. This marks the third time the two leaders have met in Israel since Milei took office, signaling a relationship that has moved far beyond traditional diplomacy.

During the joint statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended unprecedented honors to his guest, announcing that President Milei would be the first world leader in history to light a torch at the official Independence Day ceremony on Mount Herzl. Netanyahu praised Milei, calling him not just a personal friend but a "great leader" in the economic and global spheres. The Prime Minister emphasized that this historic gesture reflects the deep moral clarity and shared values that define the current partnership between the two nations.

A primary focus of the visit was the expansion of economic and connectivity infrastructure. The two leaders formally announced the launch of a direct El Al flight route between Tel Aviv and Buenos Aires, a project that took intensive coordination between the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Treasury to materialize. The route, expected to begin operations within the year, will reduce travel time significantly, turning a complex journey into a 16 hour flight. Minister of Transport Miri Regev noted that the initiative was far from simple to execute but was fast tracked due to its high strategic value.

Furthermore, the visit saw the signing of the Isaac Accords, a new diplomatic framework inspired by the Abraham Accords. These agreements aim to tighten security, intelligence, and economic cooperation between Israel and several nations across Central and South America, including Panama and Ecuador. As the visit continues, Milei is scheduled to receive an honorary doctorate from Bar Ilan University, meet with families of hostages released from Hamas captivity, and engage in high level discussions with President Isaac Herzog, further solidifying the alliance against regional threats, most notably the Iranian regime.
