The Israeli Ministry of Health has issued an urgent warning due to an extreme heatwave expected to impact the country starting today. The public is advised to stay indoors in air-conditioned spaces and avoid exposure to heat and sunlight as much as possible.

Recommendations:

1. Stay Indoors: Remain in air-conditioned environments; avoid outdoor activities, especially during peak heat hours.

2. Hydration: Drink water frequently, regardless of activity level.

3. Avoid Physical Exertion: Refrain from unnecessary physical activity, both outdoors and indoors.

4. Protective Measures: If you must be outside, wear a wide-brimmed hat, light and comfortable clothing, and apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30.

5. Never leave infants, children, the elderly, or pets in vehicles without air conditioning and supervision.

6. Monitor for Heatstroke Symptoms:

Be alert for signs such as high body temperature (above 39.5°C), red, hot, and dry skin (no sweating), rapid pulse, severe headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, or loss of consciousness.

In such cases, seek emergency medical assistance immediately. Until help arrives, move the person to a cool, shaded area and attempt to lower their body temperature.

Although this goes against your gut intuition, if you suspect someone is suffering from heatstroke, do not give them fluids: intravenous hydration should be administered by medical professionals.
