A security incident unfolded Tuesday at HaMesila Park in Tel Aviv when a stranger carrying a knife approached Democrats party leader Aluf (res.) Yair Golan during a campaign stop ahead of the elections.
According to the party, Golan's security detail blocked the man as he neared the former general. When guards moved in, a large knife fell from the suspect's clothing onto the ground.
The guards subdued the suspect immediately, before he could carry out any action. Police were called to the scene and the man was arrested. The suspect was wearing a jacket and had approached Golan in a threatening manner during the campaign tour, the party said.
