Israel Police provides update on Old City stabbing

The Israel Police have provided an update on the handling of the incident in which a terrorist stabbed a police officer and moderately wounded him.

The Israel Police provided an update a short time ago today (Friday) on the terrorist attack near the Old City.

Here's the full statement:

"This evening, around 9:08 PM, an armed terrorist with a knife arrived at the Chain Gate in Jerusalem's Old City. A police officer operating in the area noticed the terrorist and became suspicious. At a certain point, the terrorist charged toward the police officer and stabbed him in the back with the knife in his possession."

"A police officer from the David Precinct in the Jerusalem District and additional Border Police fighters who were near the scene and noticed the danger neutralized the terrorist, who was later pronounced dead at the scene."

"As a result of the stabbing, the police officer was moderately injured and was evacuated for medical treatment at the hospital."

"Numerous police and Border Police forces who arrived at the scene under the command of Jerusalem District Commander, Chief Superintendent Amir Arzani, arrived at the attack site, cordoned off the scene, and criminal identification officers began collecting evidence at the location."

"Meanwhile, the Jerusalem District Commander held an initial situation assessment at the scene together with the district command staff and ordered the investigation to be assigned to the Central Unit in the Jerusalem District."
