Yamam rappels from roof to end 11th-floor standoff in seconds

A complex and unusual incident in a high-rise residential building in Israel ended successfully Thursday evening after a daring rescue operation by security forces prevented what could have been a tragedy.

A report reached police late Thursday afternoon about a woman who had barricaded herself in her apartment on the 11th floor of a residential building and was threatening to jump from her window. The report immediately brought a large police force to the scene with the goal of ending the incident safely.

Upon receiving the call and understanding the severity of the situation and the topographical complexity of the scene at such a height, specialized units of the Israel Police were rushed to the location.

Among the forces that arrived were fighters from the National Counter-Terrorism Unit (Yamam), alongside members of the police negotiation unit, which routinely operates in extreme incidents and crisis situations of this type in order to calm tensions and reach a peaceful resolution.

After it became clear that there was an immediate and real danger to the woman's life, and it appeared that standard dialogue methods were not providing a fast enough response, the decision was made to act actively and immediately. The Yamam fighters, who belong to the specialized and trained team known as "the Monkeys", a team that specializes in breaching, takeover and rescue from heights and climbing buildings, began rapid preparations on the roof of the residential building.

In a complex and precise operation that required an extremely high level of skill, the fighters rappelled from the building's roof using ropes directly to the apartment window on the 11th floor. Within seconds, the fighters carried out a swift and surprising takeover of the woman, neutralizing the danger and ensuring her safety. The operation ended in complete success with no injuries whatsoever. Police stated that the circumstances of the incident and the background that led to the barricade are now being investigated by the relevant authorities.
