Netanyahu accuses Moscow

Russia's Foreign Ministry responded Thursday evening to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's accusations against Moscow, after he claimed this week that Russia is aiding Iran and operating antisemitic bot networks against Israel. In their statement, Russian officials denied the charges and invoked the relationship between the two countries.

On Sunday, Netanyahu told i24News that Russia has recently taken a number of steps against Israel. "The interests of Israel and the interests of Russia do not always align," Netanyahu said. "Their cooperation with Iran is something that is against us, and also the fact that there is a move to operate bots against the State of Israel with the crudest antisemitism possible. All these things we are raising very clearly."

Russia's Foreign Ministry said Thursday in response: "We are baffled by these baseless accusations against our country, voiced publicly by the Prime Minister of Israel, a state with which Russia has a rich and shared past."

The ministry added that "attempts to attribute to Russia the running of an antisemitic campaign appear particularly absurd given the relations between the countries." According to the statement, "thanks to the policy of the Russian leadership to strengthen peace and harmony among different ethnic groups, manifestations of antisemitism are almost unnoticeable in the country."
