"I Shook Babies to Check if They Were Alive": First Responder Details Horror at Jerusalem Daycare Disaster
A United Hatzalah medic gives a harrowing account of the Jerusalem daycare disaster that left two infants dead and 53 injured.

A horrific tragedy unfolded at a Jerusalem daycare on Monday, leaving two babies dead and 53 others injured. While the exact circumstances causing the mass casualty event remain under investigation, harrowing testimony from the first medic on the scene has revealed a chaotic and "unfathomable" struggle to save lives.
The incident occurred in a residential apartment operating as a nursery. Zeevi Klein, a medic with United Hatzalah, was the first responder to arrive.
“I arrived first at the scene and immediately began CPR on a toddler, about four months old,” Klein recounted. “We rushed him down to the ambulance, and I was immediately called back up for another resuscitation.”
It was only upon re-entering the apartment that Klein realized the sheer scale of the disaster. He described a scene of severe overcrowding, estimating that nearly 30 babies were eventually extracted from the specific apartment.
“At that moment, I understood the magnitude of the event and told the police to evacuate the apartment,” Klein said. “The sights were unfathomable.”
In a chilling description of the triage process inside the nursery, Klein described finding children hidden behind equipment due to the density of the room.
"Every stroller I moved revealed more children," Klein said. "I went from child to child, shaking them one by one just to verify they were still alive. It felt like a bad movie."
Police and emergency services are continuing to investigate the cause of the disaster, which has left the local community in shock.
