Leading the Charge: Naftali Bennett Formally Launches Campaign to Topple Netanyahu
Launching his election campaign with a high-stakes demand for unity, Naftali Bennett insists that the only way to defeat the current coalition is for all opposition factions to unite under his experienced leadership.

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has officially entered the political arena for the October elections, signaling a aggressive shift in the opposition's strategy. In a comprehensive interview, Bennett argued that internal bickering within the Zionist-liberal camp is the greatest obstacle to victory, comparing the current state of the opposition to a military unit whose soldiers are too busy fighting over who becomes commander to actually win the war. He stated that to win, everyone must stand behind him, citing his previous success in removing Benjamin Netanyahu from the Prime Minister's Office as proof of his leadership capability. Bennett expressed a high level of confidence, promising that the first 100 days of his next government would see a pace of action and reform not witnessed in Israel for 50 years.
The former Prime Minister did not hold back in his assessment of the current government, labeling National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir a clown and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich a failure. Bennett specifically attacked Smotrich as the architect of the draft evasion project, accusing him of funneling billions of dollars toward populations that refuse to serve while the military faces a critical shortage of 20,000 soldiers. Bennett emphasized that this lack of manpower leads to operational exhaustion and unnecessary loss of life, as troops are forced to conquer the same areas in Gaza and Lebanon repeatedly because there are no forces available to hold the territory. He clarified that while he does not blame ultra-Orthodox youth themselves, he holds the current leadership, including Netanyahu and his partners, fully responsible for this blow to national security.
Addressing his own right-wing credentials, Bennett challenged the narrative that he has shifted to the left. He contrasted his record with that of Netanyahu, noting that while Netanyahu transferred 13% of land in Judea and Samaria to Palestinians and released thousands of terrorists including Yahya Sinwar, Bennett himself never surrendered a centimeter of land nor released a single prisoner. He further accused Netanyahu of funding the October 7 massacre by allowing suitcases of cash to reach Sinwar for over a decade. Regarding the legal future of the current Prime Minister, Bennett offered a surprising olive branch, suggesting a pardon in exchange for retirement. He noted that Netanyahu is nearly 80 years old and not in the best of health, adding that he has no desire to see him in orange prison uniform as it would be detrimental to a large segment of the Israeli public that still admires him.
