Religious Zionist Rabbis Issue Joint Call for Restraint Ahead of Annual Flag March

As Jerusalem Day approaches, a coalition of prominent Religious Zionist rabbis has issued a joint public statement urging participants in the upcoming Flag March to conduct themselves with restraint. The leadership called on the public to avoid unnecessary acts of provocation during the annual event marking the reunification of the city.
In the letter, the rabbis emphasized the spiritual nature of the celebration: "Our great strength lies in a steadfast spirit and our devotion to the Torah, whose ways are ways of pleasantness. Our true power is measured by our ability to appear in the streets of Jerusalem with high spirits, recognizing the national importance of the day and the dedication of the security forces working on our behalf."
The rabbis statement continued: "Therefore, we call on all celebrants to stand firm and refrain from being dragged into attempts at taunting or provocation that seek to cloud the purity of the day. Let us remember that our heroism is tested by our ability to preserve the dignity of the occasion and add to the holiness of the city, standing confident and free from any blemish, as students of Torah who sanctify the Name of Heaven in their conduct."
Prominent Signatories
Among the signatories of the appeal are Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, Rabbi Yaakov Ariel, Rabbi Zalman Baruch Melamed, and Rabbi Uri Sherki, along with additional rabbis from yeshivot and Torah institutions across the country.
The religious leadership's message highlights a commitment to "statesmanship" , urging the youth and participants to respect the sanctity of the capital through positive celebration rather than friction.
Security and Symbols of Sovereignty
In preparation for the march this Thursday, Israel Police will deploy reinforced units to prevent clashes, with a specific focus on the Old City gates and routes passing through the Muslim Quarter.
As a symbol of national presence, the world's largest Israeli flag is expected to be spread across the Western Wall Plaza during this year's Jerusalem Day. Organizers stated the display is intended to convey a message of Israeli and Jewish strength from the holiest site for the Jewish people.
