Tel Aviv not serving in combat, city council reports

City council member in Tel Aviv: "Too few Tel Avivians in meaningful service"

At a Tel Aviv City Council meeting, a council member from the 'Yesh Atid' party spoke and claimed that there are not enough children from Tel Aviv in pre-military academies and in significant service in the IDF. "Not 8200 and IDF Spokesperson," a council member present at the event did not allow him to continue speaking.

Roy Alqabetz, a member of the Tel Aviv City Council from the Yesh Atid party, criticized the recruitment rates for combat service in the city.

At the council meeting, Elkabetz said: "We need to do more, there are too few Tel Aviv children in the preparatory programs, there are too few in general in significant service, not 8200 or IDF Spokesperson and things like that."

At this point, a council member intervened, and Alqabez replied: "Wait, wait, I say this with great caution, I know what I'm saying, I say what I think."

The council member continued to burst out, and Elkabetz retorted: "I don't see you at all, and you don't understand anything about it."

In 2023, the IDF published the cities where the recruitment rates for men and women in combat roles are among the highest, and Tel Aviv does not appear on the list.

10 leading major cities in providing Taba'i service for men: Modiin, Ra'anana, Kfar Saba, Herzliya, Rishon Lezion, Ramat Gan, Rehovot, Be'er Sheva, Hadera, and Petah Tikva.

In the list of the ten largest cities where the percentage of men who became officers is high, Tel Aviv ranks ninth.
