The Syrian state army just announced today (Thursday) that they have retreated from the city of Hama and yielded it to anti-Assad forces. They said they did so to spare the lives of the civilians in the city.

The War Room for Anti-Assad forces also said today that western neighborhoods in the city of Hama are now under their control, following fierce fighting with the regime's army.

They further said that the city's central prison is also in their hands, and that they have freed hundreds of prisoners.
